The following is a summary of my professional background including affiliations, contirbutions and memberships:

  • Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Al-Azhar University Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt.
  • Founder  and president of the African Association for the Study of Pain AASP
  • Founder and director of Avicenna Pain Relief Unit.
  • Member and co-founder of the Egyptian Society for the Management of Pain.
  • Member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)
  • Past President of the IASP Middle-east Chapter.
  • Founder and current secretary general of the First Pan-African Pain Congress.
  • Secretary general of the Egyptian Society for the Management of Pain ( ESMP).
  • Co-founder and examiner of the M.Sc. degree in Pain Management at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo, Egypt.
  • Member of the International Pain Advisory Board and Control of Narcotics and Drug Prescription.
  • Executive officer for the dissemination of the WHO program for the management of Cancer Pain.
  • Founder of the of the M. Sc. degree in Pain Management at Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
  • Member in the taskforce of the IASP for pain education in developing countries
  • Co designer of the pain questionnaire and pain survey done by the IASP
 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Educational :
    1. In the form of presenting systemic lectures about anesthesiology and pain management. These lectures at the levels of under and post graduates (Master and MD degrees)
    2. Lectures (Review articles) during the congresses and training courses.
    3. Organization of training courses on Pain  for the G. P and Junior doctors .
    4. Establishment of Pain Education in developing countries under the flag of the IASP
    5. Production of video films on regional analgesia and sympathetic chain blocks.
    6. Production  two hand notes on pain amangement for the GP and clinical respiratory physiology in relation to anesthetic practice.
  2. Research:
    1. In the form of supervision on thesis for MD and Master Degrees.
    2. Supervision on research work papers done by the junior investigators.
    3. Examiner for candidates presenting Master and MD thesis.
    4. Referee for  Research papers in the field of pain and regional analgesia.
  3. Clinical :
    1. Practical and clinical anesthesia for routine surgery of different types with more care for post operative analgesia.
    2. Presenting educational clinical and practical demonstrations in the operating theaters and out patient pain clinic.
